Description

Assists newly released ex-offenders and their families in making a successful transition from prison to their community. Helps with emergency needs first and then to assist with the client becoming self-sufficient by obtaining employment. Provides food, clothing, transportation, and shelter, guidance for job interviews and leads, and referrals to other agencies that would further benefit the client's stability in the community. Holds ex-offender monthly groups, and trainings across the New River Valley. Other assistance includes transportation, identification document costs, housing, and GED and education, and food assistance. Provides vouchers for public transportation, pays for identification costs, provides housing referrals, GED class expenses, books and financial assistance for college classes and food, and other supports are ways to solve the immediate needs of our clients.

New River Community Action is a non-profit agency working with community groups in the New River Valley to address local conditions of poverty in Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, and Pulaski Counties and Radford City. Our programs include Emergency Assistance and Food Pantries, Head Start, Children's Health Improvement Partnership (CHIP), Swift Start, Homeless and Housing Programs, To Our House men and women's winter shelter, Virginia CARES, and free assistance with tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.
