Library and Resource Center - Richmond, Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired
Offers library services free of charge to persons who are print disabled. These include persons who are physically disabled, visually disabled, hearing impaired or reading disabled. Resource Center services are provided to local school divisions to support education of visually impaired and blind children. Provides 8 affiliated sub regional libraries in public libraries in Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, Roanoke, Staunton and Virginia Beach. Required playback equipment and accessories are also furnished. In addition, a variety of Resource Center services are provided to blind and visually impaired children including adaptive equipment, Braille and large print textbooks that are distributed throughout the State. Virginia Department for the Blind and Vision Impaired
Provides services and resources which empower individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind to achieve their desired levels of employment, education, and personal independence. Services are provided through 4 main programs: Vocational Rehabilitation, Rehabilitation Teaching and Independent Living, Low Vision Services and Education Services. Most services are provided to consumers in their homes, schools or businesses. Referrals are accepted from individuals who are blind or vision impaired, schools, health facilities, families and friends. The agency operates six Regional Offices statewide: Richmond, Staunton, Roanoke, Bristol, Fairfax, Norfolk. The Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired offers these same services in a residential setting. In addition, Virginia Industries for the Blind works in coordination with the DBVI Services Division and the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired (VRCBVI) to provide a full range of employment, training, and other vocational services to individuals who are blind, vision impaired or deafblind across the Commonwealth.
