Ask the LDSS to mail an application to you and return to local office.
Service area
VA
Assists low income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high proportion of household income for home energy. It is comprised of four components:
- Fuel Assistance The local department of social services accepts applications from the second Tuesday in October through the second Friday in November. Program helps with the cost of heating. Does not provide Direct Assistance
- Crisis Assistance . Applications for equipment related assistance, security deposits, and emergency shelter are accepted from November 1 through March 15 at local departments of social services. Assistance for the purchase of heating fuel and utility bills for primary residences are available from the first workday in January through March 16.
- Cooling Assistance helps with cooling emergencies resulting from extreme heat in households with a vulnerable family member. May repair or purchase cooling equipment. Vulnerable persons are children younger than age six, adults over the age sixty, or people with disabilities. Applications are accepted for cooling assistance from June 15 through August 15. Does not provide Direct Assistance.
