Financial Assistance-Housing - Norfolk, Rental Assistance, Salvation Army Hampton Roads Area Command

Eligibility

-Applicants must have current documentation of their rental delinquency or move in status/costs. *Delinquent Rent Assistance- Applicants must have a Pay-or-Quit (aka 5 Day Notice) for the current month in order to apply. *First Month Rent- Applicants must have located a rental property, and have either a move in letter or lease describing remaining first month rent costs in order to apply. -Client copayments may be required for households owing more than one month of rent/fees. -Applicants can receive rent assistance once every 2 years (24 months). -Applicant's household income should fall below 200% of the current federal poverty thresholds and/or provide documentation of a recent economic crisis.

Application process

Call the Housing Crisis Hotline (757-587-4202) for referral. ALL REFERRALS MUST GO THROUGH THIS PROCESS. Housing Crisis will forward 10-15 rent applicants to our office each month (after the 10th). Salvation Army staff will call those referred the same week. Applicants are required to respond to our contact attempts within 5 business days or the referral will be cancelled.
