Eligibility

Assisted rental housing is limited to individuals and families based on the following eligibility: Annual gross income (income limits apply) Whether you qualify as a low-income individual, senior, veteran, person with a disability or as a family U.S. citizenship/immigration status Head of household must be at least 18 years of age at the time of this pre-application or an emancipated minor by a court of competent jurisdiction, consistent with Virginia law Qualification criteria specific to waitlist application must be met Credit and criminal background checks conducted by NRHA for all adult family members 18 years of age and older must be passed Applicant or any member of the household that has ever been convicted of manufacturing or producing methamphetamine on the premises of any federally assisted housing or any family household member that is subject to a lifetime registration requirement under a state sex offender registration program will not be eligible for housing assistance.

Application process

Applications for the HCV, PBV, and public housing waitlists are available online only through the Yardi RentCafé Applicant Portal during designated times when the waitlist is open, with a valid account.

Provide affordable rents to lower income households, seniors and persons with disabilities. Generally tenants pay 30 percent of their income as rent. NRHA's Client Services Department in partnership with area agencies, provides resident-focused programs to facilitate achievement of their highest level of economic and social independence.
