To become a Virginia Medical Reserve Corps volunteer you must first register in the Virginia Volunteer Health System (VVHS). Volunteers will provide services to the public in the event of a public health crisis as well provide support to public health initiatives during times of non-emergency by utilizing their healthcare and non-healthcare related skills training.

The Virginia Beach Medical Reserve Corps (VBMRC) exists to provide trained professional medical and health care volunteers to serve as a health care resource for the City of Virginia Beach and the surrounding areas. The VBMRC will assist the community in emergency preparedness and response, disaster preparedness education, health education, and preventive health services for the citizens of Virginia Beach.
