Eligibility criteria for returning citizens: Individuals who have served time in a federal and state prison, regional and/or local jail in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Individuals returning after a new incarceration event is considered a new client and can be assisted.

Description

Helps ex-offenders by providing appropriate assistance to meet their basic needs. Re-entry program for ex-offenders, jobs, counseling, housing, transportation and clothing. Provide transportation if possible, but primarily give bus tickets (no more than 10 in a six-month period) for doctors appointments, going to/from work, job interviews. Virginia Cares offers the following services: Emergency Assistance for basic needs (ex. housing, food, clothing, personal toiletries) Assistance in obtaining vital documents (ex. photo ID, drivers license, birth certificate, social security card) Job Readiness Skills Training and Employment Services – soft skills training, resume assistance, interview workshops, basic computer skills training, weekly ‘Who’s Hiring’ tip sheets Transportation assistance and bus passes to verified job interviews and confirmed work sites. Bi-monthly support group activities on various topics. Referrals to community partners for counseling, legal and medical services.

Lyn-CAG is a community action agency that provides programs for low income - moderate income individuals and families. Services and programs include Education and Training (computer, CNA, GED); Emergency and Crisis Intervention ( assistance with rent, mortgage or utility payments); Housing Counseling, Home Buyers Club, Housing Services and Weatherization Programs; Virginia Cares; Head Start and Childcare; EITC and Tax Preparation.
