Eligibility

To receive USDA food, total monthly household income must be at or below 185% of federal poverty level. We give donated food to anyone who does not qualify for USDA food.

Hours

Please arrive no more than 1 hour before we open the pantry. Tuesdays are by appointment only. To make an appointment, please visit https://cvillefoodpantry.org/how-to-get-free-groceries. Pantry is closed on holidays and during severe weather. Closings will be posted on website https://cvillefoodpantry.org, on phone number 434-996-7868, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and on local radio and TV stations.

Application process

Clients arrive at site, park, and wait in car for registration person to check them in. When it is their turn to get groceries, each household receives a full grocery cart, customized to their dietary needs.

Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry

Loaves & Fishes provides free groceries to low-income families in the greater Charlottesville community. Those in need of assistance can come to Loaves & Fishes twice each month to receive USDA and donated food, including fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, eggs, bread and frozen meat. Loaves & Fishes' "free grocery store" helps low-income households stretch their food budgets further as they try to get on their feet financially.
