The Salvation Army Inclement Weather Shelter will open today beginning at 5pm and will allow individuals to remain until Tuesday. They also have an overflow shelter through Caritas House, and it is located at the same site. The Salvation Army shelter serves individuals ages 18 and older. Families are accommodated in a separate area, though still within the same location. Individuals are encouraged to arrive by 5pm if they do not anticipate having other shelter resources as the shelter does fill quickly, even with the overflow option available. The Salvation Army and Caritas House can provide: - Heated indoor space for overnight rest and safety - Hot meals, beverages and snacks - Restrooms and sleeping areas - Staff support and cold weather safety information - Service dogs are welcome Individuals do not have to be a Richmond resident to come to the shelter. Transportation is not provided.
