Massey’s outreach and engagement efforts promote disparities-related research, provide access to cancer prevention and education, enable access to cancer screening, treatment and clinical trials, and advocate for public policy to reduce the cancer burden. The Danville center's main initiatives right now are to emphasize the power of detecting and treating cancer in its early stages; encourage everyone to get screened for colon cancer at the age of 45-50 (younger if you are at greater risk); raise awareness about the human papillomavirus (HPV), its connection to male and female cancers and the HPV vaccine; and work to reduce illness and death from lung cancer through education and support of tobacco cessation efforts. Our active research study is the Virginia Living Well Registry. We’ve launched a cancer registry in order to find out more about how cancer is impacted our community. If you would like to participate by taking a one-time survey, or have more questions, call 804.827.0000 for more information!
