Tutoring - Charlottesville, Walker Tutoring, Charlottesville Abundant Life Ministries

Provides tutoring and mentoring for 5-8th graders at Walker Upper Elementary and Buford Middle Schools from 3:30PM-5:00PM Monday-Thursday. Tutor-mentors provide one-to-one academic help as well as spend time with their students outside of tutoring. This program uses incentives and offers field trips.

Awards merit-based scholarships ranging from $1000-$5000. Requires 3 years of federal or postal service, a 3.0 grade point average and enrollment in a post-secondary degree granting program. Not available to active duty or retired military families unless civilian employment requirement is also met.

Financial Aid Students - Culpeper, Culpeper Business Women

A group of business women who meet regularly to network with fellow business women and support our community by providing local scholarships. Awards 3 scholarships per year to high school students, young mothers attending Germanna Community College and women over age 25 for further education. Application is announced in the local newspaper and is available in early April. Submission is due by June. Also raises money for Services for Abused Families.

Project Discovery - Danville, Pittsylvania County Community Action

Project Discovery is school drop-out prevention, college access preparatory program serving economically disadvantaged and first generation college students. The program is designed to promote education as a means to ending the cycle of poverty for current and future generations of students. Students attend various informative workshops designed to stimulate interest in attending and graduating colleges and or preparatory schools.
